England’s Burning: The Story of the English riots told in pictograms.

Design, concept and pictograms by Stephen McCarthy, MA Contemporary Typographic Media. 2011

Beginning with the shooting of Mark Duggan in north London and the ensuing peaceful protests, followed by the first outbursts of civil disorder, the looting of shops, the police response, the clean up, the hunting of suspects, and finally the draconian sentencing, the entire story is told without words.

U:D/R 04: No. 4 in a series of research papers devoted to graphic design and visual culture. It is available from Unit Editions.
